We LOVE Michael Phelps. He has inspired Devin even more then he was already inspired to swim. Mark took him swimming on Saturday morning after he begged to go every night after watching swimming on TV. Too bad school is already in session, he would have been several times by now. Mark said Devin even started off the wall, arching his back and going under the water...only he doesn't know the backstroke, yet.
Mark is fiercely loyal to the American athletes, but when it comes to the USA basketball team, aka spoiled, over paid, whiner babies, he is hoping they get their butts handed to them on a silver platter. He doesn't think they belong in the games because they don't appreciate what it takes to be an Olympian. They don't have to try out, like all the other athletes, even though try-outs probably wouldn't change anything. They seem to make a mockery of the games by the comments they make. (Just for the record, I haven't heard D. Will say anything...:)) Mark is expecting fierce opposition to this opinion from KC, Chris, and Travis. Bring it on!!! It comes down to cocky arrogance for Mark. Last night Usain Bolt won the 100 meter dash, and he pulled up toward the end, pounded his chest and looked around like he was all that...okay, he did break the world record, but he could have had an even better time if he would have actually ran the last 10 meters of the race. Mark was really disgusted at that. Just be humble people!!! Appreciate where you are and who you are representing. Every American, and many others, I'm sure, dream of being an Olympian. Represent.
But, for every cocky jerk, there are those great athletes everyone can look up to, like Phelps, Dara Torres, Nastia Lukin, Shawn Johnson, and the 33 year old German woman who competed in gymnastics!! That is awesome.
GO USA!!!

Are you freakin kidding me Mark??? Track athletes (especially sprinters) are the cockiest all about me of all. Walking around with all the bling, fresh of running from the cops. Plus you know everyone of them is on on the juice. Even the all american girl Marion Jones was on the juice. FYI- The US basketball team did have tryouts. Around 25 players were invited and they had to commit to the team over the last four years. Then they cut it down to 12 before the olympics. Yes they are overpaid, but we all know you and I would take the money to. You not cheering for the Americans is about as un-American as it gets.
Uh-oh.....I feel a family feud coming on. Get out the boxing gloves. I do have to agree with my husband though...I can't even stand to watch some of those sprinters. I felt bad for Tyson Gay, though. He's one of the exceptions. I guess Mark doesn't really like basketball to begin with, does he? I guess you have to like basketball to really like watching it.
KC-My, my, did we hit a nerve???? You're right, the sprinters are cocky, did we not mention that? We're just saying it doesn't seem like some athletes have to try as hard as others. I always thought the Olympics were for "everyday" people who work their whole lives just to get to the games. But, I guess things have changed in every sport. And not ALL sprinters are cocky, and not ALL basketball players are cocky. Let's not generalize.
KC, KC, KC. As you can see there is a (Show Original Post) button at the top of the page. I suggest you use it the next time you reply to a post. With reference to track and field I believe I made my position clear. As for basketball, your facts are a little skewed. They were going to have tryouts, but didn’t. The NBA has been quoted as saying, (according to Tom Jernstebt, President of USA basketball) “tryouts would be a disincentive and that the elite players wouldn’t be interested in taking the time for a tryout”. That pretty much sums it up for the spoiled NBA players. I’ll give you partial tryouts for the team, but for the final 12 players for the Olympic team, Officials with USA Basketball have announced that there will be no tryouts for the 12-man Olympic roster. Sorry KC. By the way, when can we watch the Olympic coverage for the golf???

I thought Michael was the brother- in-law that liked to debate everything. Call it what you want, but they got a commitment from 33 players a few years ago and out of the 33 players only 12 ended up making the roster. I guess they have tryouts for 82 games a year and I guess the technical term is "selection process". Glad your google is working though:) As for your comment about some of the top players not wanting to play, isn't that what you want, players that want to be there? I agree they are all spoiled with the money they make, but Phelps will be too, so will Bolt. You can't say they didn't work for it. As for the jab about the Golf...oh, I feel the elbow in the side...nice! I got to be honest, I don't care if it is in the Olympics....Don't really want it there. It's on channel 2,4 or 5 every single week. I think I see track on channel 257 once every six months. Hey but enjoy your spotlight! I hope this is not taken out of context, it is all in good fun. I really do enjoy the olympics and I like to watch all the sports (well most of them) and that includes track.
Forgot to add the quote from USA Basketball Men's Senior National Team managing director Jerry Colangelo-
"This has been, to say the least, an extremely difficult selection process. The 33 players who committed to be part of the USA Senior National Team program and have been involved in our various training camps and competitions the past two summers deserve recognition and acknowledgment for their contributions and for their commitment to their country," said Colangelo.
