It's great to be (almost) 8!

Yep! Sam's 8th birthday is coming up...October 10th. And it just so happens that because of General Conference, he gets to be baptized on his birthday! He is pretty excited. We're just hoping things go off without a hitch, if you know what I mean. Sam definitely keeps us on our toes. You never quite know what an event like this will bring out in him. But, it's his day, so we will roll with the punches.

It is so fun to see Sam thinking more about what it means to be baptized and the fact that he will be even more responsible for his choices once he is a member of the church. A few weeks ago on a Sunday night Sam came in and asked me if he could watch a movie in his room before bed. The rule at our house is no movies before bed on a school night, but they were going off track the next day. Apparently Sam didn't remember this because after I said "yes" I could hear him out in the hall way saying "I have to tell the truth, I have to tell the truth" over and over to himself. Then he came back in and said, "Mom, I can't watch a movie tonight because we have school tomorrow." When I told him he really didn't have school, but that I was proud of him for choosing the right and telling me that he thought they had school, you should have seen the grin on his face.

And the winner is.....

K-so only three of you commented, and one of you didn't guess!!! But, there is still a winner...Mandy! She guessed 4.6 pounds and the ultrasound showed that Drue is 4.8 pounds! But, according to the ultrasound lady that is right on track...for an 8 pound something, and would we expect any less?? :)

Any Guesses?

Tomorrow I go in for an ultrasound to find how just how fast this girly is growing. Because of my gestational diabetes they are worried that she may get too big, too fast. According to the websites she should be about 3.7 pounds at 32 weeks...I'm guessing she's a little bigger than that. I'm guessing 4.5 pounds. What do you think??

The winner gets their name up in lights...or at least on my next post :)

Gotta Tri!!!

Sam got to do his first triathlon on Friday! It was the Jack & Jill Triathlon at Water Ski Lake in Honeyville. The cool thing about this triathlon was that the lake is really shallow, so the kids who weren't too confident about the swim could actually stand up and walk if they needed to! Sam was in the 0-8 year old heat (yes, you heard right-0), although the youngest kid there was three. Still, three is young! Anyway, Dev was in the 9-14 year old heat. They both had a great time. Sam told Mark "I want to do triathlons every day, except Sunday". :)

Walkin' Fool

Yes, the day finally arrived. It was Friday September 4, 2009....my Dad's birthday, and a day that will live in infamy. Okay. That is a little dramatic. But, hey! We've been waiting for this for what feels like eternity! Noah is still not totally confident all the time, but he does great. He says "go, go, go" as he walks. Too cute.

Back to the Basics

Last Sunday in our combined RS, Priesthood lesson several couples talked about having the spirit in the home, and how to keep it there. One sister said that her Dad always thought the invention of the dishwasher was the end of family togetherness. Needless to say, she disagreed, but said that washing dishes often gives family members time together to talk. These days everyone just puts their dish in the dishwasher and goes their separate ways.

Well, not more then 72 hours after that lesson-our dishwasher died. The silverware basket has been disintegrating for months, and now the soap door won't open and is leaking, so when the cycle is done the dishes are covered with clumps of soap and most of the soap is a glob still in the door. So, last night Devin and Sam had their first experience washing and drying dishes by hand. I must say, they were very good sports about it, and it was nice to have everyone stay in the kitchen for awhile AFTER dinner. But, since I have been cooking more from scratch lately-by the time dishes need washing, I am spent. In fact, there's a pile in the sink right now. Add that to the fact that my cute, always calm, quiet, and obedient boys are off track-I don't think the dishes will EVER be completely done!!!!!!

Thanks for listening to my sob story-I can hear your little violins right now...
